Elevator Installer and Repairer Careers

Elevator installers and repairers install, fix and maintain elevators, escalators, moving walkways and other lifts.

Elevator installers and repairers often work in cramped quarters inside crawl spaces and machine rooms and may be exposed to heights in elevator shafts. Repairers may be required to work overtime when essential equipment needs repair and are sometimes on call 24 hours a day.

Elevator constructors learn their trade through a registered apprenticeship program that is usually cost free to the student. Currently, 35 states require elevator constructors to be licensed in the trade.  A high-school diploma or equivalent is required to begin your apprenticeship and career in the trade.

Elevator Constructors can earn up to

After the apprenticeship and based on certifications, a journeyperson elevator constructor (a qualified and skilled person in a trade), can earn upwards of $50.00 an hour.
