Now that this year’s National Apprenticeship Week is here, we think it’s a good time to focus on one of the best benefits of joining a registered apprenticeship program in preparation for a career: The ability to earn while you learn through a little-to-no-cost training program that teaches real-world skills to set you up for success.

With the cost of a traditional college education continually rising and no promise of landing a good job in their four-year field of study, many students and their families are reconsidering the value of an apprenticeship in the construction trades.

After all, the ability to learn a high-demand skill set without having to pay an exorbitant amount of tuition is reason enough to consider an apprenticeship. Add to that the fact that apprentices in the construction trades actually get paid to prepare for their craft, and the value of apprenticeship programs becomes all the more apparent.

Imagine completing a program that has equipped you with all of the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in a dynamic, high-demand field without having to pay back thousands of dollars over the course of many years. And once you complete a registered apprenticeship program in the building trades, you’re practically guaranteed a job, one that provides stability and financial well-being at a time when such careers can be difficult to find.

By entering an apprenticeship program, your success is only as limited as you make it. Consider this if you’re just beginning your path to a lifelong career or if you’re thinking about changing your current career path to another.

About National Apprenticeship Week
National Apprenticeship Week is put on by the U.S. Department of Labor and runs through November 17. It provides an excellent way to recognize the benefits of apprenticeship and how it is helping so many Americans build solid, satisfying careers.

The week is an annual nationwide celebration that offers businesses, educators and others who are critical to the success of apprenticeships the chance to express their ongoing support for these training opportunities. It also gives apprenticeship sponsors the opportunity to showcase their programs and facilities, as well as the apprentices who are benefitting from their efforts.

There are many ways people will be celebrating National Apprenticeship Week this week. These include apprentice graduations, business open houses, high school career fairs, apprenticeship signing days, skills competitions and more. Be sure to check in your community for what events are taking place and participate if you’re interested in learning more about apprenticeship programs.
